چکیده
The ingress of water-soluble aggressive species is a major cause to the reduced service life concrete structures. Bulk modification by adding hydrophobic agents in cementitious materials commonly applied reduce water penetration into matrix. However, conventional modifications are associated with several unresolved drawbacks such as high cost and toxicity. Here, we investigate impact safe easy-to-culture bacteria on properties concrete. We demonstrate that can be conveniently created using liquid culture without need growing biofilms suggested previous research, even strain does not present innate hydrophobicity. These key findings greatly improve feasibility for large-scale application resistance materials. Scanning electron microscopy X-ray diffraction analyses indicated higher levels micro-calcite formations increased addition bacteria. structures account dramatic increase surface roughness which leads elevated hybrid This phenomenon reminiscent “lotus-leaf effect”, ultrahydrophobicity arising from nano- microscopic topologies surfaces. Bacteria-modified cement presents distinct heat-flow profiles during hydration consistent calcite formation. Taken together, this research gives unprecedented mechanistic insight design microbial-modified particularly useful floating offshore Given large repertoire still used, our work sets stage future microbial-based tailored additional functions self-healing odor removal.

A Simple Method to Improve Hazelnut Grafting
Hazelnuts are usually propagated by suckers or layering. However, other methods of propagation have been tested with variable results. Grafting is a method that has a few advantages such as fast multiplication rate, earlier fruiting and reducing sucker removal cost on specific rootstocks. Unfortunately, grafting is difficult due to slow formation of callus in hazelnuts. Here, we report the hypo...
متن کاملA simple method to create a vortex in Bose-Einstein condensate of alkali atoms
Bose-Einstein condensation in alkali atoms has materialized quite an interesting system, namely a condensate with a spin degree of freedom. In analogy with the A-phase of the superfluid He, numerous textures with nonvanishing vorticity have been proposed. In the present paper, interesting properties of such spin textures are analyzed. We propose a remarkably simple method to create a vortex sta...
متن کاملA simple method to create buttonhole cannulation tracks in a busy hemodialysis unit.
The preference for fistulae as the hemodialysis access of choice has led to a significant number of accesses that are less than ideal for cannulation. Buttonhole cannulation is ideal for such accesses, but the technique for creation provides major challenges. In 12 patients, buttonhole tunnel tracks were created by leaving the polyurethane catheter of a Clampcath hemodialysis needle indwelling ...
متن کاملA Simple Transformation Method in Skewness Reduction
Statistical analysis of non-normal data is usually more complicated than that for normaldistribution. In this paper, a simple root/power transformation technique developed by Niaki, et al [1]is extended to transform right and left skewed distributions to nearly normal. The value of theroot/power is explored such that the skewness of the transformed data becomes almost zero with anacceptable err...
متن کاملOptimization of a Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextration Method for Analysis of Chlorpyrifos in Urine Using the Chemometrics Method
Aims: The use of simple, low cost, high -efficiency extraction methods for sample preparation in the forensic toxicology has been considered. Nowadays, the chemometrics technique can be used to determine the influencing factors on the response to optimize extraction methods. The aim of this study was to design and optimize a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) method for extraction...
